West African Manufacturing Partner

Summary: Finding a West African manufacturing partner for an international food company

Client: Grace Foods

Start date: April 2016

Details:

Our client is a multinational food company of Jamaican origin, with major operations in the Caribbean, the UK and the US, and looking to grow their business within Africa. They established an office in Ghana in 2014 and started importing several canned beverages into the country from Europe and the Caribbean. However high taxes on imports from outside West Africa (ECOWAS region) put too much pressure on their margins forcing them to look for new production partners within the region. After consultations with the client, we identified a brewery in Togo as a potential manufacturing partner for them. We then conducted further investigations, and through our contacts in Togo, established communications with key individuals within the organization. Eventually we traveled there together with our clients and lead partnership discussions between the two companies. After successful talks and a factory tour both parties found each other to be a good fit. Price and technical negotiations are currently ongoing and the companies are likely to start working together later this year.
