Installation of Solar Irrigation System

Summary: Gaia Greenfields Limited requested that MindNET advise then execute on a solar pump – irrigation system for their 4-5 acre vegetable farm.

Client: Gaia Greenfields Limited

Date: January – February

Details:

MindNET first conducted a geophysical survey to ascertain the best location to drill a borehole with sufficient yield to supply the irrigation system for 4-5 acre farm. After a location was deemed adequate, MindNET oversaw the drilling of 100 meter deep borehole.

Afterward, it became a matter of deciding which irrigation setup to use, either Drip or Sprinkler. After consultation with irrigation suppliers, MindNET decided that it would be best to pilot both systems on the farm. A water storage system was installed (10,000 litres) and a solar pump of 1.5KW power was chosen to move the water from the borehole into the tank. Our solar team procured, then installed 10 solar panels to power the pump.

Finally, drip irrigation system was setup to supply water to the cabbages, and a sprinkler for the green pepper, giving the different requirements for water the two crops have. A surface pump was also introduced into the solar-power irrigation system, to move the water from tank to sprinkler pipes.
